FOI decision reviews

An FOI applicant has the right to request a review of the decision regarding their request. Requests for review can be either an Internal Review conducted by the organisation (ANU); or an Information Commissioner (IC) Review conducted by the Australian Information Commissioner.

FOI internal review 

Under the FOI Act you have the right to seek internal review of the University's decision to refuse to provide access to, or provide partial access to, the documents sought in your request.

A senior ANU officer, who had no involvement in the original decision, will undertake an internal review of the decision. There is no charge to request internal review.

An application for an internal review should be made within 30 days of receiving the decision. An independent review will take place and a decision made within 30 days.

The application should be addressed to Freedom of Information at foi@anu.edu.au.

Information Commissioner (IC) review 

An applicant has the option to apply directly to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner for review of an FOI decision.
