Professor Penny Kyburz

Professor and Associate Director Engagement & Impact
School of Computing

I am a Professor in the School of Computing, where I have worked since 2018 as a transdisciplinary researcher and educator in the field of human-computer interaction. Prior to ANU, my diverse career path spanned industry, government, entrepreneurship, and academia. I have led development of award-winning video games and advised Australian Senators on commonwealth policy and legislation. I bring my unique background to contribute to transdisciplinary and industry-engaged education and research at ANU. As the Associate Director for Engagement & Impact in ANU Computing, I lead our school engagement strategy and contribute to ANU-wide and national initiatives to promote and support industry-engaged education and research. I am also leading a national diversity program in technology education and careers across the Australian university sector.

I am an avid supporter of high-quality, inclusive education for our students, and manageable workloads for our staff. I want to see ANU have a meaningful and positive impact nationally and globally, while breaking down internal barriers to become more connected and integrated as a university. As a member of the ANU Council, I will champion diversity and inclusion, work-life balance, internal cohesion, and socially and environmentally responsible engagements and practices.
